History
Lancaster Green Spaces (LGS) was established in 1995 and registered as a charity, number 1046701. Our Objects are:
"The preservation, enhancement and maintenance of public areas and amenities in the City of Lancaster for the benefit of the public". The initial reason for our establishment was to campaign against the sale of a city centre open space to developers. While this particular campaign was unsuccessful, LGS trustees have taken an active part in speaking out for the value of public open spaces at consultations and directly to local authorities and other landowners. More recently, we have been working to support the many Friends groups and other greenspace groups throughout the Lancaster district. In 2017-18 we delivered the Forest Friends project In 2019 we helped deliver a new community orchard off Ashton Road in Lancaster - De Vitre Community garden In 2021 we took on a coordination role for the creation of a new community garden off Bridge Road in Lancaster In 2022 we are helping Friends of Freeman's Wood raise funds to buy a 27-acre woodland. We are also acting as fund-holder for the Fork to Fork project with a 3-year activity programme Our organisational policies
