Greenspaces in Lancaster
See a list of all the Greenspace groups in the district, with links to their website or Facebook page. Our definition of a green space group is that it enhances land for more than private benefit, on a voluntary basis. List currently being up-dated!
Trustee opportunity: Lancaster Green Spaces is a registered charity and one of our trustees is standing down later in the year. We are therefore looking for someone who is interested in green space issues for the whole district. We have very few trustee meetings and the demands on trustees are few. Although public open space is under threat (as always), developments give opportunities to create new public spaces and enhance existing ones. If you would like to know more, please email Simon Gershon using this link
Volunteers needed: Lancaster Cemetery
Lancaster City Council Cemeteries Office manage Lancaster Cemetery on Quernmore Road, and in order to improve the site and services, we are looking to establish a Friends Group. It is a working cemetery with significant green space and many opportunities for gardening, encouraging our wildlife and wildflower, fundraising, and creating community spaces in our three unused on-site chapel buildings. Volunteers of all abilities are welcome to assist our office in providing a peaceful, serene site and a place of remembrance whilst also preserving our heritage. If you are interested in volunteering, would like more information or to meet for an informal chat, please contact the Cemeteries Officer Beth Aldridge on [email protected] or 01524 582635. |
Click here for details of the Greenspace Groups Forum. Any member of a greenspace group is welcome, but the forum is mostly attended by committee members. We meet every 3-4 months with a theme for each informal meeting. You can sign up to the forum mailing list and see useful information from past meetings.
We are working with the Friends group to create a new community garden/orchard in Scotforth. Volunteers welcome!
We have hand tools that we can lend to groups. We also have an event tent and catering equipment for loan.
Useful information for groups. Links to other websites. We have a Facebook web page (Lancaster District Green Spaces) and a Facebook group page, (Lancaster District Green Spaces Forum), where green groups and individuals can post news, events, offers of and calls for shared resources for all things green in the district.
